I Need An iPhone Book Reader
This post is not funny (unless you find a man’s pain to be amusing, in which case, laugh it up, fuzzball). It’s a cry for help. Kinda.
OK, so I’ve got a bunch of books that are in PDF format. I want to have them on my iPhone. I want an application that stores the PDFs locally and remembers which page I’m up to so that when I open up the app next time, I don’t have to scroll to page 90 to continue reading where I finished last time.
Whenever I try to bring my PDFs into Stanza, the formatting is ruined. Not an option. Converting the PDF files to .epub doesn’t make things any better.
Ideally what I want is Instapaper for PDFs. But since Instapaper doesn’t support PDFs, that’s not going to happen. What I don’t like about PDFs is that you can accidentally scroll from side to side when you zoom in on the text to make it fit the screen. What I love about Instapaper is that there’s only up and down scrolling.
Features I want:
- PDF support
- Offline storage
- Keeps the formatting of my PDF files
- Remembers my place
- Automatically fits text to the width of the screen so that there’s no accidental sideways scrolling (this one is optional)
I’m more than willing to convert my PDFs into some other format if necessary, as long as it keeps the formatting of the documents the same.
That’s it! Suggestions?

You can try Calibre. Heres a tutorial how to use it bit.ly/WCX1a
