Re: Lesser-Known Sequels

I already gave my answer to Mr. Lisagor’s Lesser-Known Sequels post (my answer was the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off sequel/spin-off TV show), but I think I just found one that’s even stranger.

The Jerk, Too

This is a made-for-TV movie remake of what I consider to be Steve Martin’s magnum opus, The Jerk. It stars Mark Blankfield in the title role, who I guess you might know from Fridays, if you’re into that sort of thing. He also has a short appearance in an episode of the first season of the greatest comedy television series of our time, Arrested Development. I haven’t seen The Jerk, Too, but the clip on the YouTube doesn’t make it look like much.

You don’t toss my baby in the water to teach him howta swim! And if he couldn’t make a sandwich outta everything, he wouldn’t even know know how to eat!

Steve Martin is credited with coming up with the Navin Johnson character on the film’s IMDB page, but I think that was the extent of his input into the making of this film.

According to AllMovie, this film was meant to be a pilot for TV series based on the original film. I’m kinda glad the series never went ahead.
