This is by far the fastest version of Ceremony I’ve ever heard New Order play.
Taken from a 1982 show in France. Seriously, listen to it. How Stephen Morris didn’t die behind that Gretsch single-headed kit is beyond me. If fast-as-hell hi-hat sixteenths are any indication of a man’s health, then this guy was ready to run a freaking marathon.
This is in my top, like, five favourite songs ever. Not this version in particular, but the studio one.
Update: I am a fool. Stephen Morris played Rogers. Whenever I think of the late ’70s / early ’80s and single-headed toms, I think of Gretsch. Phil Collins has that effect on people.
