Zdziarski On Jailbreaking As A Security Threat

Link.

This paper made me rethink jailbreaking the iPhone. I still haven’t done it (and don’t plan on doing it in the near future). I think iPhone OS 3.0 brings enough to the table to make jailbreaking almost a non-issue (certainly on the 3GS, but on the 3G too, to a degree). On the other hand, I would kinda like tethering, video recording, a shell, and Stacks on my iPhone 3G - though all of those features come without the usual Apple polish.

I might jailbreak my 3G. I’m still a bit freaked out about the idea of bricking my phone though. That thing cost a lot of dollars.
